I went to this medieval night thing on holiday and bought this instrument.
It's played like a flute but has 7 holes like a recorder.
What on earth is it!?

Sounds like a fife type thing.

I thought it might be a fife and then I thought, I actually have no idea really what a fife is so I got confused!

Fife is usually made of plastic or wood and is like the flute but it has no keys. I'll get a picture for you.
A fife only has 6 holes though.

I have a fife. The material and the colour is exactly like those cheap yamaha recorders. And that fife of mine is also a yamaha brand.

Might it be a flagelot? If it was from a mediaeval thing that could be likely?

Have a look at the woodcuts from
Prætorious's 'Theatrum Instrumentorum' - a catalogue of renaissance instruments instruments. In particular, there's one of recorders and fifes which might match.

Scroll down the page a bit - it's headed 'Flute/Recorder/Pipe'.
