How long has everyone been playing? What piece are you playing?

(I've played violin for about 5 years, from about 2nd grade... I'm currently playing around with Tchaikovsky and Sibelius, to see which I like more, but their hard for me... I just finnished the first movement of Mendelssohn for competitions)

I started violin at 7 - 8 yo but stopped at 14 - 15. Didn't do grades.

Just started again a few weeks ago. Playing Chopin Etude at the mo. I love it !

Don't know what grade that is. I'm trying to get an idea at what level I'm at so I can buy some appropriate material to study for my grades.

I started to learn piano 3 - 4yrs ago. GII (III June) GV (GVI nov)
Currently working through Clair de Lune. rolleyes.gif

Ive been playing since i was 11 and now im 15. Ive just taken my grade 4 so got rid of all those awful exam pieces i hate them i hate them!!!!!! I'm just playing random pieces I don't think id have the stamina to tackle all those preludes etc.

I like playing stuff from Les Miserables and disney stuff. That makes me sound really common doesnt it? Not cultured like you people!! tongue.gif

Get out of it ! laugh.gif

You play what you like because you enjoy it - which is why you play the instrument(s) you play.

My hubbie wishes I would play something other than classical piano and violin but I can't help it.

I listen to all different kinds though i.e Travis, Coldplay etc but love playing classical.

I had a student who went all the way through her grades to grade 8 (she now teaches). In all those years, she said she maybe liked TWO pieces she had to learn - highlighting the word maybe. biggrin.gif

And you know there's nothing scandalous about that. Music is an art form and as such "beauty is in the eye - or in this case ear/fingers?) of the beholder."

Her love was writing songs - ans she was REALLY good at it!

Ive suddenly realised what a lovely instrument the violin is(when played well)and im sorry i gave it up now!!(though when you have a teacher like mine its no wonder i gave up!!)
