I know this is probably a silly question, but I cant find the anwer anywhere on the website. To enter a pupil for exams do you need a teaching qualifications, and do you need to register or anything?

My highest qualification is grade 8 but I've been teaching for a while and considering one of my pupils for an exam.

You fill in an entry form - available from music shops and HLRs - doing that registers you with the Board.

You don't need any qualifications - in fact pupils can enter themselves if they so wish.

You don't need qualifications.
With a postal entry you just fill in the form and send it off (with the money wink.gif ) you will get your applicant number with your exam dates if not before.
For online entry you need to get a password... sned an email from the home page and they will help you with what you need to do.

Worry not, the only 'qualification' you need to enter someone for an exam is to be over 18 years old. If you're not that old then you have to get someone else to do it for you (parent, teacher, etc.). As Sbhoa says to enter online you'll need to register with the ABRSM first. To do this go to the online entry form and click 'UK Registrations' it will take you to the appropriate place for exam entries. I'm assuming you're in the UK of course, if not, you can enter online from Singapore in the same way, or if you're somewhere else you will have to get the paper form from here.

Good luck to you and your pupil smile.gif.

A friend of mine recently entered herself for Grade 6 flute. Her highest qualification is a nursing degree - so she put that down after her name! (RGN or something like that!) laugh.gif

When I was 15 I needed to do Grade 5 theory. I'd taught myself what I needed to know from the books, and tried some practise papers, but the problem was, I wasn't old enough to enter myself. So my mum (who is completely unmusical and possesses one O level in English!) got hold of the forms and entered me instead. When the certificate arrived I was so proud to see our two names on there together. Anyone over 18 can apply.
