Hi all,

Don't know if anyone has played it, but in Root Beer Rag, the lovely jazzy piece, I am struggling with the section where you have to play octaves, the staccato section, after the first repeat sign. Does anyone have any advice? And also, does anyone know what grade it is? I'm hoping to play it as a piece to do with my Music A Level but not sure what grade it is??

Thanks

Well I have been playing other pieces of grade 8and 7 levelwante t know if that piece was much of a drop, thought it might be grade 5. You have the oppurtunity to get slightly higer maks if you play a harder piece.

So far I have played

Grieg's Melody
Soler -Sonata In F
Another Sonata in F - can't remember composer
My own composition pieces
Czerny - Etude in A Minor

Am currently learning Chopin's Fantasie Impromptu, which I love, have about three pieces to go until I know it all roughly!! it's tough but sounds very nice! I'm thinking about doing it for my A level final exam piece next year. Not sure though!

Hello again!

I think Root Beer Rag, with al of its syncopation and octave madness is easily worthy of a G6, and more depending on the aggressiveness of tempo and also pedalling technique (which counts for a lot in Rags).

Chewck with your A level tutor would be best, but I played the Gershwin preludes for A level and they did ok. Roughly the same sort of standard I'd have thought!

Best of luck

Hi again!!

I'm so glad it's a grade 6 piece roughly, because I think that gets me into the advanced bracket when it comes to marking!

I will check with tutor tho, I cannot play it extremly fast but it's getting there. It's a fun piece to play!

Thanks again
