Aaah finally got my results this morning - I was interrupted in the middle of teaching my grade 1 pupil to find a big brown envelope saying 'certificate' on it. Relief! Had to abandon lesson momentarily to find out marks. Pulled out nice shiny certificate only for Dad to point out that it said 'with Distinction' at the bottom! Am so overwhelmed - I remember saying to my teacher back in July that I'd never get a distinction. And I was convinced I'd failed the Quick Study, only to find I got 12/15! Here are my mark breakdowns:
Recital 39/60 (high pass) 'Overall this was very capable and intelligent playing.' I especially like the comment about my Schubert slow movement, 'there were some touching moments'.
Viva voce/prog notes 22/25 (distinction) 'Notes very well written combining analysis with informative historical background. viva confirmed this impression. A wide range of knowledge was intelligently communicated and all questions were thoughtfully and intelligently answered'.
Quick Study 12/15 (distinction) 'This was well grasped. Tempo changes and changes of key were well observed and this was fluently played with very few errors'. (v. surprised at this as I thought I made lots of errors!)
Overall = 73%
Congratulations to all who passed, don't give up those who didn't this time round. My advice would be to get as much public performance experience as possible, competitions, trial-run recitals, masterclasses.
Found it alarming that in the letter from ABRSM sent with the mark sheet it said about now being able to enter for LRSM 'in due course'!
