Good luck! Cambridge is a wonderful place! I remember some real characters among the choral scholars at St. John's too! Which college have you applied for? Hope you enjoy your stay!! smile.gif

Thanks guys....

the only thing that i worry about is sight-singing....
i can never sight sing in my whole life....

The William Appleby book is good for that - ask Steve Hopwood! If of course you could get a copy in time! Other than that, look at any books of music you've got and just try reading a bit at a time (with a piano or something handy so you can keep checking you're on the right track.) Even now, if you do some every day it should start to improve a bit. Sing scales and arpeggios up and down from the tonic, which will help fix intervals in your head. Hope this is of some help. smile.gif I often imagine the piano keys when I'm singing (being a pianist first and foremost!) and it can sometimes be a useful guide.

Wow, I'm hoping I might get into Cambridge for Chemical Engineering, but I doubt it! Slight problem of entry being through Natural Sciences, Engineering or Computer Sciences. I haven't done physics, which counts out Engineering, I am almost as scared of computers as they are of me, so Computer Science doesn't seem likely, which just leaves Natural Sciences...

and I've only done Chemistry and Maths. <sigh> Still Bath's Chemical Engineering programme seems wonderful and they appear to have lots of opportunities for music and the arts.

Best wishes, liebe_klavier, and if I do get in by some miricle, see you there! biggrin.gif

Write her an email or a PM. Her entry in the forum members' list lets you do that. If you're both there at the same time, and not too busy, John's and Christ's are within walking distance, and you can deliver letters to the porter's lodge to establish communications.

Selwyn and Newnham are on opposite sides of the same road, so that's no problem. However, they're a long walk from Christ's and Emmanuel. I hope they lay on transport for you.

i am dead nervous now.....tomorrow i am going up to cambridge and face the truth.....sight-singing is still my weakest point....i do hope i will get the scholarship.....the competition is huge....

I received a letter from the University about audition few months ago. However, the letter arrvied late and the deadline cannot be met. I have contacted the person in charge and she allowed me one more week in filling in all the details and asking for a reference etc. However, i was working hard towards my A levels and so i didn't bother to apply anymore...... blink.gif

Also, I have already got my air ticket which the flight date cannot be changed anymore. So no point for me really going for the audition really... huh.gif

Good luck to you who are applying to Cambridge. Think of some special and impressive and imaginative answers in the interviews and all the tests!!

hehe....i'm back....

well....it's alright.....but i found the ear test extremely difficult.....i'm not sure whether i'm going to get one......but i won't be soooooo depressed if i don't get one....

it's the process and experience which matters......
