Full Version: Questions Regarding Gcse Music

I've mentioned this in several other parts of the forum, but for my Integrated GCSE Music Coursework (OCR), I have to choose a style, then study three pieces in that style, perform one and do a composition in that style. I've chosen to put my focus on broken chord and Alberti Bass accompaniments, because I thought that would be quite easy to compose (composition is not my strongest point).

Are there any suggestions for what I could perform (and perhaps two other pieces I could study)? I've passed my Grade 5 in May and I'm currently brushing up my G6 Dussek Allegro piece - do you think I could play that for my performance (it has an Alberti bass passage at the beginning)? Or is it not worth it to play something as difficult, as you get max difficulty marks at Grade 4/5?

Another piece I was thinking of performing was the Allegro of the Mozart Sonata in C, K545. That has the well-known Alberti pattern at the beginning. Around what grade would the Allegro movement be? I was also considering performing/studying Für Elise.

I know I sound really muddled (my brain is muddled!), but this is really doing my head in. sad.gif My performance would most likely be during my trial exams early December, so I don't have too much time. Basically, I was wondering what people think of the Dussek Allegro, the Mozart K545 Allegro, and also if there are any other Alberti bass style piece around an easier level, say Grade 4/5. And a bit of moral support because I'm really wishing I didn't take Gcse Music.

Thanks for the help.

The feeling of wishing you hadn't taken it will soon go. It's just coz you'll be getting stressed with everything, and since you like music, you'll be more hard on yourself getting right than you would be in other subjects.

Brushing up? Is that like final touches, or, just about getting to the end and playing under sped? If it's final stuff then you could play it if you're confident enough. I did a grade 5 alberti bass piece on trinity in 2003 (allegro in D minor?), which wasn't too hard. But I dunno about the Mozart.

Good luck smile.gif

Thanks for your reply! smile.gif The Allegro is OK, I can play it quite well although it's definitely under speed. I can play it quite fast but not as much as the metronome mark.

Can you remember the composer for the piece you did for G5 Trinity? That would be really useful. I also found a book of Clementi Sonatinas (Op 36 No 1-6) buried in my books... they look quite nice.

Clementi Sonatinas are fab!

The Dussek Allegro would be a good piece to play, but only do it if you are really comfortable with it.
