Ken Russell directed one called The Music Lovers - think it was about Tchaikovsky - it had Glenda Jackson in it if I remember correctly. There was one about Debussy too.

Ken Russell also directed a film about Mahler. I remember going to see it with the youth orchestra I was in at the time. I'm not sure any of us had a clue what it was about.

There is a film about Grieg - I think its called Song of Norway. There is also an amazingly cheesy film about Chopin with Cornell Wilde as Chopin and Merle Oberon as George Sand. I believe it was called A Song to Remember and was made in the 1940s. Actually I have to admit this film influenced me quite a bit. There is a brilliant scene when Chopin and Liszt play a duet together (!) and a very over-the-top death scene. Amazing what you remember

There have been several films about Beethoven (the St Bernard)!
Immortal Beloved was the 1994 film about the chap himself.

Not really about a composer but the brilliant sax player Charlie Parker (Bird) is Clint Eastwoods "Bird" could be wrong but I think it was 1988?
Worth a watch not brilliant but if you like Jazz, The Sax it is worh a look. Be careful I am not sure what rating it is!

My fella is writing a script for a possible tv dramatisation about Brahms - I think he was a bit of a player in his day (and not in the musical sense)!
PS LOVE Amadeus, and Immortal Beloved and also seen some of that long Wagner thing too!

Ken Russell also made "The Music Lovers" which is about Tchaikovsky, however it's unsuitable for children, and "Lisztomania" which is er, about Liszt.

Song of Summer about Delius is a good un. The Wagner 3 dvd is a monster and has all the cats - Olivier, V Redgrave, Gielgud and Burton! The first part is heavy going but persevere and it's got some of the best drama you'll ever see.
Forget Amadeus - its reactionary toss, (and I'm a fan of Peter Shaffer).
