Hi, I just did my Dip exam less than a month ago. I think I did badly for my Viva. But many told me if my recital & quick study are able to pass, they won't fail my Viva. So is that true ?

Has anyone out there failed Viva Voce only?

My impression is that if you have done well in other sections then you probably will not have failed the Viva.

My recital and quick study didnt go well, and my Viva seemed rather half hearted as if the examiners had made their mind up, so it didnt matter how the Viva went really.

The only section I passed (by one mark!) was the Viva, so i have the option not to retake this. Although I cant see how this works if i change my programme....

You have proven you can pass a Viva, so another time you would presumably only have to prepare recital and notes, and do the quick study - you wouldn't have to talk in depth about your programme unless you wanted to.

hi, I think I have to answer my own Qn, as I just received my results last week. I didn't fail Viva Voce & in fact did quite well for it with 17 marks. I think the trick is that even if you don't know the answers, just make up something & support it with your own views. and as long as it sounds reasonable, & interesting, u would score! U must be confident when u talk !!

It's possible to pass the recital and quick study and fail the viva voce part. They won't (or shouldn't) adjust your mark for the viva voce based on other portions of your exam.

I am glad that you passed though. Well done! To do the LRSM next summer you will have to keep up your hard work for sure. I pass my DipABRSM with 65, and passed my LRSM the following year, so it can be done for sure.
