Wondered if anybody can help with me..... I have an oboe I need to sell and I have no clue how much I should be asking for it.

I know nobody here can see or hear it rolleyes.gif but if anyone can give me a very rough idea of a value it would be much appreciated.

It's a buffet semi-professional, about fifteen years old but I only played it for about three years so it's in immaculate condition. Would I be right in thinking that after this long shut in it's cage, the cork will have deteriorated?

I originally paid about £1200 I think

Thanks smile.gif

dunno. try googling on 'secondhand oboe' uk sites only. ebay may have some to compare price.

if you can still play a cromatic, try the keywork youll soon see if the corks have gone and what state its in. describe it as you have here then buyers would know where its at. does it have a model number.?

just looked on ebay and some sellers are overpricing. some buffets on sale.

good luck.

Try ringing TW Howarth (THE Oboe shop in London) and asking them 020 7935 2407 (assuming you're in the UK).

They're really helpful and would have a very good idea on prices but, as always, it does depend on the quality of instrument.

For what it's worth, Buffet student model oboes retail secondhand at between £500 and £700 pounds. I know that as Howarth have just valued one for me for a pupil!

Don't have any students needing new instruments right now but I'm sure someone will.

Hope you get a satisfactory sale.
