In this year,I'm going to take grade 6 and decided to choose these pieces:
list A > Andante Amoroso by Mozart
list B > B3 by Schumann(In English,it's named"Strange Story")
list C > Reverie by Corea

Well, what's your opinion about these pieces?

I'm not taking the exam but my old teacher made me play the songs anyway last year. I played all of the A list and B1 and B3 and C3.

I like Mozart's Sonata in B flat, well...I like most Mozart...so I would great choice on this one. biggrin.gif But really there's tons of expressive detail in Mozart and if you can bring it out, then it's a sure distinction. All the "sighing effects" are important and phrasing and all his perfect cadences more often than not end sweetly and softly.

I can't STAND the Schumann because when I had to practice it, it was torture!!! I kept going for water breaks every 5/6 minutes. I just have issues with these kind of pieces. Too sweet for me. But if ya do like it and enjoy it then go for it! tongue.gif Important thing here is finger pedalling I think.

C1 worries me because by the time you have finished your two pieces, the examiner will be looking for a more upbeat song. Your first two pieces both use pedalling (well pedalling for Mozart, not really, more just for texture, but still..) and then the last piece is played "slowly, quasi-rubato". i dunno...maybe you should include one upbeat song so the examiner doesn't think that you can only play slow songs when in fact you have untapped talents as a superfastdotteddemisemiquaver player (what did i just type? gah i have no idea what nonsense i come up with nowadays...).

Just my two cents! smile.gif

i dont really know these pieces but if you have chosen 3 slow pieces then it could be a good idea to change one of them and play a faster one. a fast one will show off your talents as a superfastdotteddemisemiquaver player!! or whatever it was falling rain said!! laugh.gif

In case anyone falls into the same trap as I almost did - this is an old thread, from last year! I'd just been about to reply that these were the 2003-4 pieces............... laugh.gif
