There is usually quite an elaborate writeup of the examiner's name, qualifications and achievements outside the exam studio where you wait to enter, if you all noticed it.

I think they do that to put you more at ease, the examiner is human. But I don't see the point, I only noticed it this time and it did not help me one bit, not thinking that their aliens of something but it doesn't put me more 'at ease'. Anyway, would you call your examiner by their name.

Can I remember the examiners?
My dear Tzl_tzl, I can barely remember the exams!
My memory of the whole ordeal is blanked out almost as soon as I leave the room.
And before anyone suggests that this is due to old age, it's always been the case that I couldn't remember exams afterwards - even when I was a young 'un.
Cheers

I remember my Grade 6 because I had a moderator in the room with the regular examiner and he (the mod) was a little fat and cheery and looked like my Physics teacher at that time.
Was someone talking about remembering irrelevant details?

I don't remember any! Not even if they were male or female, except for my G5 piano it was a man, he asked me the wrong scales (like scary diminished 7ths!) and I was too scared to tell him. He came out when I was finished and made me go back in to play the right ones!!!

G3:A fake kind of nice lady with glasses
G4:A scary guy with a huuuuggggge grin
G5: A mean man who didn't smile!!
G6: A nice man with a red and green tie
Does anyone know/is related to an ABRSM examiner like as a person...

I got an unexpected rehearsal at dealing with that the other week when my teacher was asking me scales without looking at the syllabus....

I know an examiner, he's my dad's best friend. And a girl in my band's dad is one too. One is the nicest teacher I know, the other is very very scary...even his daughter says so.
All my examiners (20 odd) have been male. I only remember the one who looked as though he was wearing lipstick...

Oh Oh examiners names .. sorry I have the examiner to beat all others.
My grade 3 Speech and Drama examiner had the wonderful name of Mr Cockin ( yes spelt like that!)
My teacher was very careful to practise "good Morning Mr Cooo- kin " with me, being very careful not to pronounce the second 'c'. We arrived at the exam and Mum checked "incidently how does the examiner say his name " the moderator replied "Oh just as it's spelt ###### - in "
I said "Sir' instead as I couldn't trust myself not to laugh

I only remember my grade 8 and Dip. examiners.
My grade 8 examiner was great - middle aged man with glasses, made me laugh in the exam: we came to the aural tests, and he sat at the piano and said 'Right, if you could stand there facing towards me, if you can bear to look at me'

. He then chatted to me at the end, asked me what I was doing - it was the day after my last A-level exam, and I told him I was going to university to study computer science. He said jokingly 'Oh, you're one of those are you'

.
My Dip specialist examiner was
Dr Andrew Padmore. Very nice chap. The name of the non-specialist escapes me at the moment; he was quite quiet though and let Dr Padmore more or less lead the viva, just adding one question at the end.
I can remember every single one of my driving test examiners though

Can remember examiners for my pupils much better than for my own exams. When you are being examined I think you are too nervous and focused on the exam to take in the examiner's name particularly.

For anyone kicking themselves thinking they could remember the name of their examiner if they saw it each of the
Annual Reviews has a list of all examiners that examined during the year concerned. You'll need the patientce to look through them all though!
I've had three men and one woman examiner (in that order) I can't remember their names, but when I find out the name of my examiner I usually type it in to google to try and find out who they are, usually works too

I'm not sure how many I've taken, but the first one was in 1986, so let's count them up:
Clarinet 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
Recorder 5, 7, 8
Theory 5, 8
Flute 5, 7
Sax 5, 6, 7
Piano 2, 4, 5, 6
Singing 1, 2, 4
Violin 3, 4
Viola 4
So that's 26, just over one a year. I certainly don't remember all my examiners, or even whether they were male or female, but if I saw some of their names it would ring bells. I did have a lovely one called John Railton for grade 6 clarinet, who made a point of having a chat with us and signing our music. He's always stuck in my memory.
BTW all of the above were ABRSM, apart from grade 4 clarinet, which is also the only one I failed! But I failed because I was entered unwisely, not because it was Trinity.
I'll be 30 in a couple of years and I'm considering retiring from exams then. It's stressful enough watching my students take them - but we'll see!

my grade 4 - another evil, nameless man (there've been a few in this thread

)
second sitting of grade 4, a much nicer, and more conversational man - Mr Brian Head was his name
grade 5 - very nice woman, Mrs Libby Crabtree
grade 6 - rather abrupt, unfriendly woman, Ms Elizabeth something (began with a T)
grade 8 - nicer woman again, quite conversational, Ms Chryssides (or something like that)
i suppose on the whole that's not such a bad deal

I've only done three grades.
Grade one: some strange woman that reminds me of my biology teacher last year. Rather prudent, with shoulder-length brown hair and quite a furrowed look. Didn't give me great marks, but I think I was entered too early. Just said 'thank you' and gave a half-smile each time I did something.
Grade two: Lovely red-haired, quite young bloke - really friendly and charismatic. Chatted with me for about five minutes after the exam - talking about school and music! Gave me a fabulous distinction as well - and really praised me after each piece.
Grade 4: Fabulous old grandad-type bloke! Very 'with-it' though! Lost his pen when I was doing the sight-reading, so I got about 2 minutes! Very chatty once again, and asked a lot about me as well as giving me easy aural questions. Gave me a distinction too!
