Anyway, what is the fingering for A above the stave? I can do up to G but then nothing comes out, maybe I'm doing everything completely wrong.

I think it's what you'd expect except you may have to "pinch" the thumb more - leave less of the whole covered.

But no doubt a recorder expert'll be along soon and be able to help more

It's just like the lower A, but with the TINIEST bit of the thumbhole left open, and keep your breath pressure up!
