I was playing my viola last night and I noticed that it makes a strange rasping sound when I play on the G string and something appears to be rattling around inside my viola (but I can't actually see anything). None of the other strings are affected. I did some practice this morning before school and it was the same. I'm going to show my teacher tomorrow and ask her advice but I was just wondering what the problem could be. Has anyone got any ideas?

Most likely scenario is a loose adjuster.

That seems quite possible. How serious a problem is it? Would my teacher be able to fix it?

No, it won't be a wolf tone, not on a violin.
Just tighten the adjusters up. You can do it yourself. Just check there's nothign loose.

If you've got a mute on sometimes that causes a buzzing/rattling sound on one of the lower strings. I had the same problem today but haven't figured it out yet. Really annoying.
