I decided to play my sax before as I really need to practice for my audition but I keep running out of breath. More than before. Is this because I've got a cold? unsure.gif

When i had a cold, (i play the flute) i found that i breathed slower huh.gif i don't really know why.. maybe that's the same with you, i'm probably wrong - as usual, lol.

I always find that when I have a cold my breath capacity is much worse than usual.

What is the audition for? I mean, for uni I know, but what does the result affect, as you already have a place etc?

Just a thought, if you let them know when you go in that you have a cold, and apologise for it, they may well take it into account. After all you have a place already, and they will have plenty of chances to see how you play when you're well, so it's not like they're seeing you as a once off and have to trust that you're not telling porkies!

It is an audition to do solo performance as one of my modules

Oh right!

Hmm.

Well, you may not get a lot of being-let-off for having a cold then, but I definitely think it's worth telling them.

It is a week tomorrow, so I'll see what I am like then.

I'm scared now.

Don't be... OK, well I know that is easier said than done! But seriously, you have got to an amazing standard in such a short time, and you've done so much other music, that they will be able to see you are very musical, and have potential to do well in a performance module. So if they don't snap you up they are mad.

If there's any cold left in you by your audition, just tell them beforehand. If it doesn't affect you too much then yay, you play well even WITH a old (huge brownie points) and if it affects you a bit then you did warn them beforehand, either way say it before not after.

I hope so

Actually, I was confused for about 5 minutes - I thought 'Oh, someone's joined the Forum with the username Helen; that'll get confusing if she's in the same thread as subatomic star' blink.gif.

I spotted it. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Nat, don't worry about the breathing. It will be all right as soon as you've shaken off the cold.
