I've bought the Chester book 1. It seems ok but I was wondering what other books were best to teach a seven year old (value for money).

I use Tunes For Ten Fingers with that age group - and tippex out any annoying finger numbers (didn't realise until this week that there are quite a few, and I prefer to force them to read the notes straight away!)

I use 10 fingers as well, in conjunction with the 1st piano time and making the grade prep test.

I've only used Chester once, and found it went a bit quick for my 6- and 7-year olds. But then most things go too quick for them

Despite the finger-numbers I do find this one of the best books for this age-group. I deal with the finger-numbers as we go along - sometimes they just aren't an issue. Sometimes we "choose" the ones to snopake out.

Yes, I just get rid of them if I find that a sneaky child is using them instead of reading the notes!
