I probably won't be able to order some stuff. But Chappels in Bond street claim that they have loads of music from around the world. I wonder if they have stuff from Japan. They proably have stuff from Uematsu, I should take a look sometime.

London is a very big place. It's really hard to find Hisaishi here as well.

Lol It isnt on Nostalgia Wind whoops...You can hear La Pioggia here:
http://neuro.ohbi.net/music/index0.php#joe_hisaishi_raBy the way, do I just have small hands or does everyone else seem to struggle with Hisaishi's chords in nearly ALL of his pieces?? esp. One Summers Day, Ashi.taka and San and Hatsukoi.
Noodelz
Jan 16 2006, 05:00 PM
I don't really have a problem with the chords. Something which is really getting to me though, is Oriental Wind. I must be playing it wrong becasue I just don't see how it all comes together.
The site doesn't seem to work CPPF.

I could stay up late and listen to it. Then again,
spamming e-mailing CFM might be better. There are loads of his pieces which could be played, a lot better than Phillip Glass and his repetitive music don't ch'ya think?

I've only stayed up once...
Yup, Wandering Sophie is the only one they have ever played...they could play SUMMER ! *hopes*
Though Phillip Glass does kinda rock...

There's an update on Nolstagia Wind. Oriental Wind, I don't really like the midi recording and it's only like a 1/4 of it but I thought that I would just point it out anyway.
OH NO! What's happened to Nolstagia Wind? I can't see what pieces half of the links lead to now!

Does anyone have the score for 'Going Out'? Its one of the many versions of Summer but shorter and sweeter.
Noodelz
Feb 23 2006, 05:04 PM
That's done it! Thanks.
Haven't got anything for going out. It's from Kkikujiro isn't it? Maybe there is a book with all the songs from it.

Feb 23 2006, 07:34 PM
I have the mp3. I can send you it if you want, it sounds quite easy to transcribe and normally I could probably do it, but I swear this has this really weird key change that I can't figure out...

Apart from that little bit its more or less the same as summer. (Going out ends after the second repetition of 'a d f f# e d d', after the little joiny bit after that, and it doesnt have the octavy/arpeggio bit)
p.s. yes Its from Kikujiro, as is all the summer versions

and the rain

Feb 24 2006, 04:33 PM
If you could, send it to me please! I don't have much to do over the weekend anyway so I'll have a go transcribing it. You don't have it as a midi file do you? It would be easier.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Feb 24 2006, 04:58 PM
Nope not midi, or I would have transcribed it on Overture!
I'll send it to you in a bit then....when I can be bothered to open my hotmail!

Haven't been here in a while...
I got an imported copy of A Chinese Tall Story the other day. Only got to watch it today.
One word: Confuzzled.
But I don't know much about films so I'll leave it at that.
Anyway, the music was really nice, I can't get the theme out of my head! I'm trying to arrange it all for piano now (not easy). At least the Easter holidays will be here soon.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Mar 31 2006, 08:16 PM

Gosh..not been here for a while...now I've finished G8 I'm going to try learning the entire encore book...and then might start a wish to the moon...

Try the website. I think it's the first track. I could send you it if you want, I recorded it on Audacity so there's some other noises with it in the background.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Apr 1 2006, 05:49 PM
Sorry could you send it me? I can't find it..confuzzled by all the japanese!!
btw on audacity there isnt any background noise if its on stereo mix...unless you mean you played it?
woo!!

My piano teacher is going to order his own copy of Encore...spread the Hisaishiness!!

Apr 1 2006, 09:38 PM
You got the e-mail yet?
I prefer the style he has now. There are loads of good pieces from his earlier albums and that but generally, I like the stuff he's producing now if you see what I mean.
I'm so tired! I'm not too sure if what I typed just made sense.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Apr 2 2006, 01:24 PM
Got the email but can't open the aup project for some reason

Could you convert it to mp3? Would that work?
I like a lot of his soundtrack material...I don't know what you mean by 'earlier'...dya mean all the 'I am', 'My lost city' and stuff? Coz I've not heard much of that though I'd probably say that out of all the piano stories my favourite is still the first one.
Noodelz
Apr 2 2006, 03:09 PM
I'm not too sure what I mean myself. I like a lot of the stuff that he has done in the past 5 years or so (especially for the films). Although I like all of his stuff, I'm going through a phase where if it's hard to play, it's satisfying to play. Maybe that's it.
Oh and I've sent the e-mail.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Apr 2 2006, 03:37 PM
I get what you mean...woo that mpo3 worked!! The music is really nice...though I think he's branching out into more typical soundtrack/new age music now...
I don't think I've heard as much of his 'recent' stuff..mostly stuff written in the late 80s and 90s...
Noodelz
Apr 2 2006, 03:59 PM
I think that as he tries to get more attention, he's going to have to adapt to a new style. I wouldn't want him to go to Hollywood though. There a lot of composers are told what to do and are forced to make 17.7 seconds of utter rubbish to fit in with the scene. Also, if he were to become a Hollywood composer, he would have to lose some of that oriental feel his pieces have. It would be a shame then as that's what makes him stand out sometimes.

But thats what makes Hisaishi
HISAISHI!!
A find that the reason a lot of his piano music appeals to me is that they have that oriental characteristic mixed with minimalism and new age. I've found that his more recent music has lost a bit of that (for me anyway..), e.g. I think that HMC soundtrack is much less oriental that My neighbour Totoro...though that might just be me...
I think a lot of the more well known Hollywood composers (with the exception of John Williams, Howard Shore and anyone I've missed out) have kind of lost that characteristic sound that represents them...like you say, because of the whole 'lets write 2 seconds of music for this bit' and 'then something completely different for the next 5 secs'...
Noodelz
Apr 3 2006, 03:43 PM
No you're right. HMC does sound more 'western' but I can't imagine Johm Williams composing something like that. It still has that magic only Hisaishi has.
The only way for Hisaishi to be able to keep his style and become famous is if Disney bought Studio Ghibli. Something I doubt though, a lot of fans wouldn't like that and I personally wouldn't like that.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Apr 3 2006, 03:58 PM
Me neither

Though didn't Miyazaki say that HMC was going to be the last ever Ghibli film anyway?
I've not seen the English version of HMC though it was on at my local cinema at some point...didnt do too well even though they had a massive display (though admittedly right at the back of the cinema..)
