His son is making another Ghibli film.

HMC was apparently one of the poorest films made by Miyazaki, never seen it though.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
I've only seen 2 Miyazaki films so I wouldn't know but it wasnt as good as My Neighbour Totoro...
Noodelz
MNT and Spirited Away was supposed to be his best, never seen the latter so I don't know how it compares to MNT. Both are supposed to be one of the best animations of all time as well.

It wouldn't hurt to play it in the daytime would it? I've got it on my computer anyway.

Me too...but it just shows that our efforts came to nothing *sigh*

Noodelz
This might sound a bit stupid or something but how do you pronounce his name? It's the 'ai' bit that confuses me. Is it meant to be like air or J'ai in French or is it more like His-are-shi? blink.gif

I say it like the latter but have no idea how it's supposed to be. CFM might have said his name once or twice but they always Einaudi wrong so I don't really trust them.

This probably makes me sound like a person who can't read and pronounce things properly. dry.gif ph34r.gif
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Its definitely just Hi-sai-shi....like the 'hi' in 'hit', then 'sigh' and 'shi' like sheep. laugh.gif

Haven't heard CFM prnounce it but my Japanese mate has always said Hisaishi and I trust her!

melody_maker
I got a Hisaishi CD which arrived yesterday and it's great!!! Does anyone know where I can get the music for Spring? I looked for it on the yahoo group, but I couldn't find it
Noodelz
Have a look here. wink.gif

And thanks CPPF! Guess I've been saying it wrong all the time although I've never really had to say his name out loud. huh.gif

Any idea where this is from? And guess what...its on CFM at 2 in the morning rolleyes.gif

Noodelz
Just googled it. Comes from Laputa. 2 in the morning is disgraceful. Hisaishi-san probably wouldn't be too happy if he knew about this. Then again, he probably does have some idea. He gets paid everytime one of his pieces are played right?

Does he? I doubt it... unsure.gif

Noodelz
He probably does. I remember reading something like that once, the lawyers and agents would try their best to get as much money as possible.
Noodelz
Couldn't sleep so I was browsing on random sites and came across this. Just have a look at what we're missing! ohmy.gif mad.gif Still nothing like that in the UK for us unfortunately. sad.gif
crazy_purple_piano_freak
ohmy.gif ohmy.gif sad.gif *sob* And Yumi Kimura is there too....I have her version of Itsumo Nando Demo playing on the loop...so pretty...

Am going back to China on Sunday so will hopefully be able to get Spirited Away in Shanghai... unsure.gif Maybe some Hisaishi sheet music too, as CD22 found some there...

Noodelz
I'm off to France next week on an 'educational' school trip, apparently they like him there so I'm gonna have a look around for some CDs and sheet music.

I've seen Spirited Away. Magical film. Okay, so it's a pirate copy but that's because I couldn't find it in the shops anywhere. unsure.gif ph34r.gif

Just found out that kiki is on in a few mins ohmy.gif . Just so happens we are right in the the middle of the Studio Ghibli season on film4. It's free and if you miss this one then there are still a few more of Miyazaki's films in the coming days. A chance to hear Hisaishi's music!

I don't have film 4!!! sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif *feels like the sky has caved in*

Tell me if its good, and tell me what else is on!!!

...oh well...will have to console self with DVD of Princess Mononoke ... ph34r.gif tongue.gif

Noodelz
It was good! Very cute and very happy. The music was a little disappointing though, maybe it was just the bad synth cos it sounds pretty good on the piano.

I'm going to try and stay up late and watch Grave of the Fireflys. Not Hisaishi but is supposed to be very powerful and moving. I think it's about Japan after 1945.

Anyway, there's Naussicaa (sp) tomorrow, Porco Rosso and a few others I can't remember. Wish I saw Laputa which was on Sunday. Missed it! ohmy.gif sad.gif
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Aww I love the music to Kiki!! Lou has the theme on sheet somewhere... she bought a book of what she thought was 'final fantasy' until I pointed out that it had stuff from Porco Rosso, Nausicaa and Kiki in it! rolleyes.gif

Couldn't you tape whatever it was? unsure.gif

...and apparently (according to my cousin anyways..) Nausicaa is really really good!!
Noodelz
Forget about Nausicaa! Graveyard of the Fireflys was SOOOOOOOOO sad! You're not human if you don't cry at the end. ph34r.gif

It was worth staying up, went to bed at about 2:30 in the morning. blink.gif
crazy_purple_piano_freak
I'll look it up smile.gif

I don't usually cry at films much, but Schinler's List made me weep buckets as well sad.gif

Noodelz
I taped Nausicaa, will watch it whenever I have time. (Which I should have plenty of dry.gif )

I don't usually cry for films as well. If I do, it's just a tear or two. But this! It made me cry the seven seas! It's just so harrowing.
Noodelz
Just thought I would pop in and say that there is a whole load of Hisaishi MP3s in Galbadia Hotel. I don't know how long it has been up there so I could have just not seen it for a very long time. It's just an excuse to bring this thread back up. biggrin.gif

Anyhow, I think that Piano Stories III is one of Hisaishi's best albums. He's still a genius. WOOOO!
crazy_purple_piano_freak
PS3? Is that Nostalgia? unsure.gif

My favourite is still 1...followed by 4. biggrin.gif

Noodelz
Yeah, it's Nolstagia.

I think he was trying to get a new sound. He probably wouldn't have got far as a piano composer if he kept his old style. PS3 is a lot more 'mature' in a way and he experiments a bit. I haven't heard much from PS4 so I can't give my opinion.

And the soundtrack for Spirited Away rocks, especially Dragon Boy.
crazy_purple_piano_freak
PS4 is a bit like PS3 but even more experimentally, as you put it. tongue.gif

Its a lot more violin/orchestra and piano, rather than pure piano..heh

Oooh this is really random but have you heard the Happin Hoppin beer advert? (or is it tea? Cant remember...) Anyway, its by Hisaishi and its amazingly *happy* biggrin.gif

Noodelz
Is it on British TVs?

EDIT: Just googled it. I'll do a search on Youtube tomorrow, too tired now.

Oh yeah, Have you heard of Yoko Kanno before?

The stuff she's done for Cowboy Bebop is amazing! You have to check it out!

I think you've posted Yuki Ohigashi's website on the forums once. I can't find her(?) on google though. Do you mind putting it up again?

Am listening to some stuff on Ichigos right now smile.gif *is addicted to anime music in general* biggrin.gif

http://yukopiano.com/stories/index.htm

The stories are well funny, but I really like all her comps, esp the earlier ones...

Also, while we're on the subject, check out my soundclick too smile.gif

http://www.soundclick.com/stations/stations.cfm?id=259787

I really like Michelle McLaughlin at the moment...

Noodelz
Her music is nice but I can't help but think that there are hundreds of people with the same style as her. It's pretty much been done to death. Nevertheless, she's amazingly talented. The one she composed at 8 years old is incredible for her age. I'm trying my best not to be cynical but she must have reworked it later on or something. That or she's had some sort of formal composition lessons. I couldn't stop laughing when she was so 'devastated' she quit her lessons. laugh.gif I'm so mean. ph34r.gif

I can't stop listening to jazz now. The soundtrack to Cowboy Bebop has got me jazz-mad!
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Yup all true...I think that's why I like it sometimes, when I just want to listen to something simple and pretty, all the pieces kind of blend into one and its really relaxing! biggrin.gif

Where did you get Bebop soundtrack from? The only stuff I can find is midi on Ichigos... unsure.gif

...oh yeah, and did you read the *stories* to her compositions? Most of the comps were dead nice, but some of the stories were, like "this woman went out, and then she DIED...so I composed this song..." blink.gif laugh.gif ph34r.gif
Noodelz
I got it from Galbadia Hotel, I can send you some if you want. I think some people will like it and some people won't, a few of the pieces are a little weird. The anime is pretty good as well. I managed to get a few episodes from the internet. ph34r.gif
