Where can I get his sheet music?
Noodelz
Sep 20 2005, 03:59 PM
There's a Yahoo group dedicated to him. Once you've joined, you can get some free sheet music of his most popular songs and Piano Stories.
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/joehisaishi/Also there's
www.joehisaishi.net which is in french but we don't know if it's legal or not.
Come to think of it, you shouldn't actually be able get
any Joe Hisaishi sheet music for free legally anyway.

Thanks for the yahoo groups site Noodelz! I doubt the French site's legal though...
Does anyone know whether distribution of transcribed sheet for a composer thats still copyrighted is legal or not?

Generally not, but the composer/composer's manager person can give permission to individual people/sites etc...I think

So how do we know whether permissions been given?
Is midi for JH still illegal, or has he given permission to Nostalga Wind?
Noodelz
Sep 22 2005, 04:24 PM
You could ask the person who transcribed it.
Nostalga Wind has probably been given permission, you will notice that Oriental Wind is only a small clip as it has just come out recently.

Just thought I'd answer the question and revive the thread since I stumbled onto it just now, it's called Dolphin Ocean and is composed by Hisaishi.

DOLPHIN OCEAN!! WOOO!!THANKS NOODLEZ!! Do you know which album its off by any chance?
crazy_purple_piano_freak

Just did a search for Dolphin Ocean on Gamingforce and it says that its not Hisaishi but composed by the webmaster of Nostalgia wind...and its not on any cd...

Oct 1 2005, 12:44 PM
Whooops, my mistake.

Well it is Hisaishi influenced, sort of.

Sorry to be random, but I love Innocent!!! It's a lovely piece!!!

My favourite Joe Hisaishi piece is probably either W Nocturne or A Wish to the Moon. They contrast completely so it's pretty impossible to choose between them, but I recommend them to anybody who would be able to play them!
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Oct 2 2005, 04:30 PM
*repeats comment about a wish to the moon from beethoven forums* lol
SUMMER SUMMER SUMMER...(need i say more?)
W Nocturne is lovely though, and Oriental wind, Ash.itaka and San, Carrying you ...and my new favourite THE RAIN!!
CD22, try playing 'Carrying You' (the tiger moth thing) from Castle in the sky...you'll love that if you like Innocent

Shush, nobody were in Beethoven forums!

Printing off some of the suggested pieces now. I would buy them, but copies seem to be rather elusive within a 5000 mile radius of England...

ditto...Im still learning Ashi.taka and San though... On beethoven, they censored that and automatically changed it to 'anutsaka and san'..hmmm..
Have you heard the Dolphin Ocean thing Matt?
MattD
Oct 2 2005, 04:44 PM
Haven't heard it yet. Do you get them from the Yahoo group?

Turn on sound, go on Nostalgia Wind and its the piece that plays automatically..i dont think its Hisaishi but its similar...
MattD
Oct 2 2005, 05:02 PM
Great piece! It does sound 'Hisaishiesque', but from the looks of it, 'HeeFoo' is the owner of that site. Still wouldn't mind the sheet music for it though; I wonder if Sibelius would transcribe the MIDI file legibly...
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Oct 2 2005, 05:08 PM
Could Sibelius do that?

I dont have it though...i was thinking about transcribing it by hand but thats too hard...
MattD
Oct 2 2005, 05:10 PM
Yup, haven't got it on this PC though. I'll try it after when I'm upstairs

Has anyone ever heard Hisaishi on the radio?
crazy_purple_piano_freak
Oct 2 2005, 05:54 PM
Not in UK. If you search Hisaishi on Classic fm, nothing comes up!
Sibelius is about £400 Noodelz, though cheaper (but not by much) with student discount
