Can someone please suggest what I can sing for a Christmas Musical Theatre revue. The brief is for lesser known musical theatre numbers ( ie not Les Mis, Phantom etc) or Christmas themes - in an up-beat style
I am only 12 so nothing too lovely - huggy rolleyes.gif
I sing A ( below middle C) to Eb .. my voice is starting its downward slither of puberty blink.gif

there is this really great song that i sang in choir last year it is called "What shall we give" -it is a very pretty, bright song- also "angel's choir" or "angel's chorus"- i dont quite remember what it is called- but the first text is "can you the sound of the angels voices ringing out so sweetly ringing out so clear..." these songs were both in soprano/alto but most songs you can get with only one part- or maybe you could do a duet?

'Christmas Lullaby' from Songs of a New World would seem a good suggestion. It has a range of middle C to E so I guess you would need to put it down a tone.

Thank you All Ears for your * helpful * suggestion and website link blink.gif
I was hoping to be asked to perform on stage again sometime in my life otherwise I would most certainly have used one of your * excellent * suggestions laugh.gif

Sorry, musicman! biggrin.gif You did say "upbeat" though, which is the only fault I can find with the suggestion of In the Bleak Midwinter.

How about some American songs, which are so much less familiar in NZ? I never heard Silver Bells until I came to Japan (you could cut out or rewrite the one mention of snow)?

There are some nice Shaker songs which are simple but moving, but my book is buried somewhere so I can't give you a specific recommendation.

Musicals - did you mean Christmas-themed ones, or any musicals?

(exits humming "I'm Your Dentist"...)

This is getting slightly confused here. I think you're thinking of 'In the Bleak Mid-Winter', words by Christina Rossetti. There are several settings - the one in most hymn books is to the tune Cranham by Holst, but there is also the well known setting by Harold Darke, and the modern one by Bob Chilcott. I think you were also thinking of the 'Angels' Carol' by John Rutter.

No any musical theatre that is unusual would be fine. Doesn't have to have a Christmas theme.
Is that the dentist song from Little Shop of Horrors ... if so someone has already taken that one - it's very good isn't it.
If I pick a baritone song I can then sing it an octave up so those are good.
Keep going .. you too All Ears !!!!

OK...what about Slim Gaillard? Some of the boip-boip vout stuff might be more than you want, but try "Serenade to a Poodle" ( what could be more "upbeat" than THAT?). It's on his "Laughing in Rhythm" album.

P.S. In terms of sophistication of lyrics "Potato Chips" or "Make It Do" (both on same album) might be a step ahead!

It is by Cranham but I know there are two versions and I am going from the one in my hymn book from church,

The other setting I know is by Harold Darke.
Chill-et was a joke, no?

edit - oh, David, sorry - I 've just noticed you 'd already replied to that!
ultrasoprano
yes, chilott's "mid-winter" and rutter's "angels carol" were both what i was thinking of- thank you very much dcmbaron- i was confused
