[FONT=Arial][FONT=Arial]Hi
I have a student that barely scraped through he grade 3 piano exam. I really want to get her playing some studies and thought "a dozen a day" would be good. However, I want to buy online so obviously cannot flick through the books to find the right one for her level. Any suggestions? I don't know the series well enough to determine which of the books to order. Thank you!

Oh right. Well according to the website the Intermediate book is the last book, book 5. Is the Dozen a Day series not suitable for a grade 3 to 4 student then? If so does anyone have any other suggestions for a book of technical exercises?
Thanks again.

I'm not a teacher, but wouldn't this depend on the pupil? Surely a struggling grade 3/4 student would benefit from the same material as a grade 2 student who was doing well. The beauty of the books not having grade labels is that you could take the student back to these things without them realising it's backwards.

[SIZE=1][SIZE=1]Thanks for your suggestions but my main point was that I don't have much knowledge of the content of the different dozen a day books and I want to buy one online. Buying books online has the disadvantage of not being able to flick through the books and decide for myself which would be most suitable.
I am familiar with other books which contain studies but these are often in the form of mini pieces. One of the main reasons this particular pupil struggled with her grade 3 exam is because she is impatient and has a short concentration span. I thought the dozen a day books would be more appropriate for her as they contain very short exercises. So, Imy question was to those that might know the series well enough to suggest which particular book might be suitable for this pupil .
Anyone else?
Thanks for all your ideas!

If your pupil is struggling it sounds like some consolidation is needed and maybe Book 2 would be good to start with. If she finds them a bit on the easy side you can try transposing them into different keys too. And it has opportunities for pedalling.

They are a good series of books - short, structured excercises with appropriate titles - e.g. morning stretch = playing notes far away from each other on the keyboard and big jumps.
Some, but not all of my pupils use them, and I do like that they are not 'graded'. If your pupil is struggling at G3 level and has a short attention span, maybe book three (transitional I think?) would suit. It's mostly centred around the key of G major at the start.
As for transposing....beware - book two is *very* similar to book three, but the former uses Cmajor. You don't want to send pupil out to get the second book and find they've already covered half of the material!
