Who were they called, they wore really odd shoes, I got their sinlg and it had about 50 remixes of it. I would force my parents to play it over and over again in the car. Me and my sister would scream at the top of our lungs and gave our parents a very bad headache.

I don't think it was Burl Ives. No sure. I know ol' Burlie did the Little Train that Could.
Was Runnaway the one that went run, run, run, run, runaway?

Yes - Runaway was one (possibly an early one almost before my time...)
and it did go as you describe Louise - seem to think the "runs" were off the beat - there's a pun waiting there somewhere .....
But I think my favourite was Hey little girl - possibly the first "single" I went out and bought.
"Last night I walked ... through the ... streets of my town,
and saw the shadow of a ... girl I had known" it's kind of coming back.

EDIT and the other one was Little town flirt.
Just found the two singles. How sad is that !!
