Full Version: Concert Forum And Expertise List

Now that Forum Concerts of various types are well established and look set to take place regularly throughout the year, don't you agree that it would be a good idea to have a separate Concert Forum where all the relevant threads could be kept together? It could perhaps be a combined Concerts/Events Forum, on which we could also post details of non-Forum events such as concerts, workshops, exhibitions to do with music etc, so that it would all be in one place and easy to browse through, rather than scattered about in various Forums as at present.

It strikes me also that we could do with a sort of 'expertise list', both for musical and non-musical things, to draw on for future concerts, so that concert organisers know what things people are good at or willing to do. smile.gif

For example, I'm willing to run a recorder ensemble at any future concerts which I'll be able to attend, as long as the organiser finds out for me in advance which recorders the people concerned can play - so a question to that effect would have to go on the application form.

I'm also willing to run a mixed-instrument ensemble of the Grand-Finale type at other organisers' concerts, if they would like one but don't want to do it themselves - although I must say that I would also rather like the chance to play in one myself sometimes, rather than just conduct! Again, I'd need to know the combinations of instruments which were available well in advance - for Saturday's concert I had to transpose several of the original parts, which obviously I'd rather not do at the last minute! rolleyes.gif

Over to you.....

I think that sounds a good idea. A "one stop shop" approach has got to be a useful addition.

My two offerings are
1.) that I'm prepared to help with all aspects of organising except finding an initial location if it's outside my "home patch" and
2.) that I'm prepared to have another go at a choir, if the victims er no I mean participants from last time don't tell you the horror stories to put you off......most of them are still alive, albeit walking wounded wink.gif

Cheers

I think it's a great idea too.

I'd be happy to bring along our set of handbells and train up a small group to ring them (6-12 people). I can probably get to venues in the south and midlands - possibly even the north with a bit of organising.

I'd also be prepared to rehearse and provide music for a flute ensemble if we had several flautists.

And yes, katyjay, we'd love to have another go at a choir. smile.gif

This sounds like a great idea, maybe we could petition Christine for a forum...

Yes, that sounds like a good idea!

Sounds an excellent idea.

Might also be useful to get a rough idea of people's availability in general terms. eg what their days off (if any) are, or those who are busy on Sundays or who teach most of Saturday, though I guess concerts are almost bound to be weekends.

Anything in the Midlands would be great. Ditto to the flute ensemble

Yes, as Maggiemay says, it would be good to do maybe a Sunday or a day which isn't a Saturday.

I'd be interested in some workshops of some kind, but maybe this is ambitious.

Definitely keep the music bring and buy sale idea.

Maybe we could have play a long days somewhere, where people in an area arrange a day and go and have an ensemble day?

That would be fun!

Actually I'm one of those awkward people for whom Saturday is better than Sunday: apart from anything else (I'm generally pretty busy on Sundays) transport over weekends, trains etc, tends to be bad, but appalling on Sundays.

Well....if it is near a half term or a holiday or something I can do Saturdays. It is just when band is on. But, hopefully I'll be allowed to miss a band for a concert. I agree that transport is much easier on Saturdays.
