Heya,
I found an old book I used to play when i was 8 and it reminded me of my first piano lesson and I was just randomly wondering...Does anyone remember their first lesson?! I think I remembered getting middle C confused with F!

I can't remember my first ever flute lesson, but with my first ever flute lesson with my current teacher I:
* Cut my lip with my flute
* Gave her the wrong timetable
* Was shaking a lot
All because I was so nervous!

I can't remember my first guitar lesson. We had them in a group, so I kind of...mixed in with the rest I suppose.....

Can't remember first piano lesson, but my first flute lesson was ten minutes long, and my teacher (a peri) gave me the headjoint and told me to try & make a sound!

'We are going to the zoo, we will see a kangaroo'?
Can't remember where it's from, but I remember tapping out the rhythm with one of my sons.
I seem to remember going dizzy a lot in my first flute lesson, and then playing recorder pieces with my teacher accompanying me.

My first piano lesson was 22 years ago, but I do remember it !
Hey, what a great memory for an "old" man ! (Since some of you seem to think of +25 as being old !)
I had already been playing on my own and with my sister for a couple of years before I started taking lessons at the local music academy, so my teacher was quite enthousiastic about me as a "beginner"

. She asked me to show every C at the piano, and I seemed to be one of the few who didn't forget the last one.

Ditto, but she made me sit down, beacuse she had had someone nearly pass out before!
My first piano lesson was going over some (very easy) pieces I had done with my other teacher.

That's the one! I started with Fanny Waterman's Piano Lessons, and Sugar and Spice so it was in one of those.

I remember my first keyboard lesson the teacher showed us (a group of 5 teens) 3 ways to put your fingers on the keyboard, one with his fingers totally vertical, one with his fingers totally horizontal and one in the right position and we had to "guess" which one was right. It was hilarious

Funny, but if that's his usual way of teaching, it might get pretty annoying after a while...

. I changed teacher after that first year.

I remember being shown the two clefs and notes at the start of a grade 1 theory workbook (an A5-size book, I remember switching over to Theory in Practice a few grades down the line when they changed the theory syllabus).
I was then shown the first two pieces Green Schaum book: the typewriter piece, which involves the notes C, D and E in the right hand; and another, which has the same rhythm, a different name, and involves the notes C, B and A in the left.

I remember playing a lot of middle c's in the John Thompson book.

Well, I began 25 years ago, what do you expect? And then I got to draw the treble clef, which I really liked on the first lesson. I went to the teacher's home and she was nice.

Unfortunately I moved after that, so I didn't quite get to Grade 1 with her. I dug out a Grade one theory paper (1979!) and then had a good laugh at my mistakes with the rests! Good thing to do when you are a teacher. To think that I only got between 75 and 80 marks for grade one. Lucky I improved when I actually took the test for Grade 3.

My first violin lesson.. I remember thinking... darn.. will I have to give it up? It's so hard! I can't even play anything other than D in the first lesson and pizzicato for the notes on open strings was so boring! But I'm glad I stuck it out.

That's the one - it's on the first page of Me and my Piano.
I started with I am C, middle C, left hand, right hand middle C.
Then -
Top line A and finger 3 - skip a note and go to C

Piano-learnt rhythm, alternated between C# and D#,then learnt how to draw the treble cleft. Got so addicted to the squiggly sign I drew it in my schoolbooks
Violin-how to hold the bow and violin, open strings.
Not too bad for both.

My first ever clarinet lesson was in a group of three, and I was the second of three to produce a note. I must have a party in September next year to mark 25 years since my first lesson. <feels old at the thought, and tries to remember where she left the Werther's Originals>.
I don't remember my first piano lesson, or the first recorder group at school, although I did get thrown out one week for continually playing London's Burning. Ah, happy days of The School Recorder Book 1! (I saw a brand new copy a couple of weeks ago, and the photos (which looked dated in the late 1970s) seriously need updating!!).
If anyone feels old, try this: I'd already passed Grade 8 clarinet before Julian Bliss was born. Young whipper-snappers shouldn't be allowed to be that good!
