Hi every1!
Just wondered what people thought about electric pianos.
I am thinking about selling my traditional upright to buy a modern electric one, as it annoys everyone in the house when i play at the moment!!
Is this a good idea?

What's your budget, does it need to be portable.
I have a P-60, but I wanted the basic portable, weighted keys system. Plus it had to be black and look gorgeous, because I'm one of those unfortunate people who has to have a colourcoded house, or I go slightly off the rails.
If you don't want it to be portable, we get into my preferred range. It does, of course, depend on how many instruments it has to cope with, and whether you're just using it for practice or also for recording etc.
Most of all (and this is incredibly important) - do you prefer black or silver...

Black is nicer, more traditional and stunning. My friend Alex has one and his is great.Much better sound for concerts when you need amplifying too, i have to say.

Not at all, not if you have the right microphones (2, always, for a good piano recording) and a good grand piano.

Apr 16 2004, 10:35 PM
I agree with that, but my school doesn't have a grand piano, so we usually use electric, which is definately better than upright, and presents a better appearance.i wish we had a grand! We had enough money granted to get one but got steel drums instead, which are really cool!

Fantastic piece a friend of mine wrote in 2 hours, originally based around a steel drum riff. I'll ask him for permission to upload the midi onto here.

Thanks! I've noticed a few of your posts on these boards.are you in the same age range as me (i'm 16) because you don't seem it.Not that i'm making an issue, or anything, I just like to talk to musicians like myself, provided they aren't arrogant, which you aren't.

I never give away my age online, but no, I'm a professional teacher (as opposed to an amateur teacher?).
I work in a school. Or did. Long story.
And you're wrong, I'm incredibly arrogant, I'm just not an arrogant musician. I'm a very arrogant academic.

We have a teacher like that, Mr Wicks, who is incredibly arrogant, music and otherwise and very confusing cause sometimes he can be nice too then so sarcastic. He is quite funny.I so got on the wrong side of him but I think I made up by maturing quite a lot.
In what way are you academically arrogant?

Maybe you are. If not, consider looking into the possibility of having a long lost twin, because you are so alike, it's scary. Also, I have read the post about grammar. Immense! How is my grammar? Suitable, I do hope, since I study AS English, albeit Lit. and not Language. What do you teach? Music?
I also notice you don't respond to some of the younger people on here very well. Do they annoy you? If indeed they do, you probably are Mrs Wicks. You even have his sense of humour!

I was reading.
No, I do like younger people, but plenty of children become rather irritating between about 13-16, and I have trouble with those - it's why I teach in schools up to 13, and try to kepe my private pupils as adults. I'm avoiding a certain age range, which I find very very difficult to teach.
Please note, however, that I did not do well at any English exam I did since I was 13. I missed being marked on appreciation of imagination.

As for imagination, does anyone like Harry Potter?

Yes, of course. I queued in Borders, with 10,000 other people, in Cambridge, on the day that it came out (the 5th one that is).
Wonderful books. Awful films (I don't like it when books become films, they are rarely true, and destroy imagination)
Say hello to my long lost brother for me.
P.S. Don't get attached to our conversation, it'll break your heart eventually. It's not capable of returning your emotional attachment.

Everything is music, even if its not.Like, for example, Harry Potter has music on the film, and there are songs written in the book.

OK u 2 getting back to the topic!!!!
I think electric pianos can be good or bad. We have one at school which clicks when you press each key, it is evil and impossible to perform on although we have to use it at concerts coz the grand piano in the hall is according to my music teacher old and horrible basically.
but saying that my piano teacher has one instead of a real piano and its quite good not as good as a proper one though i have to say. And i get really annoyed coz the peddals are so close to the floor its hard to half peddal.
Luv me
