Hi. I'm thinking of doing my grade 8 piano soon, but have been unable to find the price of the exam anywhere on the AB site. How much does it cost?

I think it is between £50-60 but I cannot give you an exact price.

as a general rule, they won't openly admit the price if they know you won't like it. it's risen a little recently, £59 is pretty expensive. but your eyes will be opened afterwards:
Diploma ABRSM - £118
LRSM - £350
FRSM - £500

I think it's obscene! I took Grade 8 clarinet in 1994 and it cost me £34. Next year I'm doing it on the saxophone - and it's nearly doubled!!

Maybe someone from the board could clarify if the prices are going to increase each year. If so then I won't be taking anymore exams with them. It is hard enough to find money now let alone the thought of the prices in a few years time.

I claim it as 'Professional Development' so it comes out of my business costs and I don't pay tax on that money. But it doesn't solve the problem of having to find the ££ in the first place. That's partly why I took a couple of grade 4s this year, instead of forking out over £100 to finish my sax and piano grades.

That's really so much money. You know , ABRSM exams in egypt cost even more! Imagine grade 6 piano costs £110 so imagine how much grade 8 will cost after a few years!

( knowing that £= 10.5 egyptian pounds)
I'd better start saving!!
