In short, yes, I'm afraid it will. It's inevitable in the sense that you will, I presume, have bits of metal between your teeth and the inside of your mouth as you play and, depending on how/where they are fixed, these are going to get in the way of achieving a good shape to the embouchure and may, initially, lead to soreness of the inside of your mouth.

However, such things can be overcome on a temporary basis. It's unlikely to stop you playing completely but you'll possibly find you need a softer reed for a while and you just won't get the full control you'd have without braces. I have taught a considerable number of pupils who've had to go through the braces bit and it is a nuisance but, if it's got to be done, then it's best done sooner rather than later.

What has been the universal experience of my pupils is the utter joy when the wires come off finally and the rapid improvement in tone and control that follows. Never fails to amaze me either and I'm used to it!

Hope this works out for you OK. Won't be easy but stick with it and I'm sure you'll win through.

People have recommended some sort of wax on other threads about braces?

If you do a search for braces then you will probably get lots of useful info.

Many of us have been there and done it all before (I'm a clarinettist, but I imagine the problems are similar). You have to make some minor adjustments at first, and yes it's uncomfortable when you have the braces tightened etc. but after the first couple of weeks they stop rubbing your mouth (or rather your mouth gets used to having them there) and you shouldn't have any restrictions in how much you play. I've recently taught a whole bunch of teenagers with braces and wearing them didn't seem to impede their progress at all.
