Peter Sculthorpe
Biography
Peter Sculthorpe was born in 1929 in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. He was educated at the universities of Melbourne, Australia and Oxford, England. Peter has been a composer-in-residence at Yale University and visiting professor at the University of Sussex. He is currently professor in musical composition at the University of Sydney and has been the recipient of many awards and prizes.
Peter’s compositions relate distinctively to the unique social climate and physical characteristics of Australia while combining influences from the music of Asia, especially Japan and Indonesia. He has written works in most musical forms.
