Karen Tanaka
Biography
Karen Tanaka was born in 1961 in Tokyo, Japan. She began piano lessons at the age of four and composition lessons at ten. After reading French literature at university she studied composition at Toho Gakuen School of Music with Akira Miyoshi.
In 1986 Karen moved to Paris, where she now lives, to study with Tristan Murail and to work at IRCAM. She later studied with Luciano Berio in Florence.
Karen’s catalogue includes orchestral, chamber and instrumental music, with and without electronics; also two collections of pieces suitable for young pianists.
