Biography
b. 1934 Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire. Studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music with William Alwyn and Priaulx Rainier. Has been active as a professional pianist, performing in chamber music and with singers. Teaches composition at the Royal College of Music, where he began deputising for Herbert Howells in the 1970s and was Head of Composition from 1992 to 1997. Output includes orchestral, choral and chamber music, as well as works for solo instruments and voice.
