He gained his Degree in Music in 1980, having performed as a student in London, and continued with a busy schedule of concerts as accompanist and soloist whilst first a student and then a staff accompanist/coach at the Guildhall. He was awarded a Certificate of Advanced Studies from the Guildhall School of Music in 1981.

During his performing career he worked as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician and as an orchestral pianist, appearing in the major London concert halls and at festivals in the UK. He also performed in Austria and Germany and was involved in BBC Radio broadcasts, giving several first performances. He founded the Lancing Piano Trio and also worked as musical director of the Mid Sussex Choir and The Hurstpierpoint Singers.

As a teacher of piano he gained a considerable reputation, having worked as Senior Piano Specialist at Lancing College, Head of Musicianship and Piano Tutor at the Croydon Schools Piano Centre and visiting tutor for the East Sussex Pre-Professional Course in Music. He lectured in Higher Education and ran a thriving private teaching practice. He was Chairman of The Mid Sussex Competitive Music Festival from 1983 to 1997. He has examined for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music since 1989 and conducted numerous international tours. In 1995 he was appointed a Course Leader and Mentor for the Certificate of Teaching Course run by the Associated Board.
