Washington High Scorers' Concert Report

High Scorers' Concert

On January 13, 2008, 48 students who achieved Merits and Distinctions in their Associated Board practical exams in October and December of last year were invited to perform at the High Scorers’ Concert at Sherman Clay Pianos Recital Room in Bellevue Washington. By bringing the ABRSM community together, the concert gave students, teachers and parents a chance to share their musical experiences and thoughts. Judging by the extremely positive feedback received from teachers and parents, the concert was considered significant in encouraging and energizing students to further their music achievements.

Due to the large number of participants and the seating capacity of the facility, the concert was divided into three sessions (Grades 1-3, 4-5 and 6-8) and lasted for four hours. The students were extremely excited to have the opportunity to perform in public and play on the wonderful Steinway piano provided by Sherman Clay Pianos.

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of souvenirs to the candidates - and in particular the bestowal of Perfect Aural awards for only the second time in the history of the event. The number of candidates qualified to receive this award had increased fourfold since the previous occasion - from 4 to 16. The announcement of the Top Scorer of the Grade marked the climax of the evening and the recipients were all ecstatic to discover that their hard work had been acknowledged.
