However, he's made a list of all the cathedrals (I didn't realise there were so many!) and is in the process of emailing them all to see if they offer organ scholar places (and if they're still free).

Thank you for all the interesting information about women organists.

 

I was prompted to ask as at the more humble parish level the last church I attended in England had a woman organist (very good) and at our parish church here in France it's always been women who do the job.

His other Conservatoire rejected him because "all the other candidates had at least a year's experience as an Organ Scholar".  If this is a "requirement" why can't they be upfront and declare this? He's had 4 application forms from Cathedrals etc and they start interviewing after Christmas, so maybe there's hope.  On the plus side, he's passed his Grade 8 with a mark of 142 so at least that's some good news.  Interestingly, he said the examiner was one of the people who'd been on his interview at his first choice conservatoire so at least we know his playing is up to standard - it's just the experience he lacks.
