I play the recorder (descant). A lot of the music I come across is baroque and I think I should like to know a little more about the genre. Can anyone suggest something that might be useful and as fun as possible?! Please. Preferably not something that would do for flower pressing as I have rather a lot of (reading) commitments at present... I'd like something that would give me an over-view and offer directions. Thanks in advance!

The standard uni textbook is Bukofzer, Music in the Baroque Era. Sorry, it is definitely a door-stop/flower presser, but it's quite readable, and easy to dip in and out. Slightly shorter is Palisca's Baroque Music from the Prentice Hall History of Music Series. I still have both my old copies smile.png.
