Anyone else entered for a diploma this December? I sent the form off this morning for my piano DipABRSM resit. I only need to retake the recital as passed the viva and quick study last time round.

The programme I have planned is:
Shostakovich: Preludes Op. 34, Nos. 3&11
Schoenberg: Sechs kleine Klavierstücke, Op. 19
Mozart: Adagio in B minor, KV 549
Bach: Toccata in D, BWV 912

Only the Schoenberg is left from last time, the others are new.

I like the fact of the new programme; fresh challenges, and all that....better than buffing up old material.
I'm not doing one this December - maybe a year hence (or thereabouts) for organ.
Good luck. :)

Thanks all for the kind wishes. I got my date yesterday - 17th December which is as late as it possibly can be. Not sure if the extra week will be beneficial, as by then I will probably want to get it over with.

Good program but I would play it in reverse order. I usually like to start with Baroque, then Classical period

I like to be different. Also, I feel the Bach works best as a grand finale, and it follows on naturally from the Mozart which is in the relative minor.

I have just recently become a member of this forum. I took my ABRSM teaching diploma in December in London. It was a very good experience and I am pleased that I took it.

In the Viva Voce  I thought that I would of had more specific questions on the syllabus but they were more general questions- about tutor books that you would use, exercises for beginners, posture, etc. I thought I could of answered some of them better. I tried to stay focused and I was more relaxed as it went along.

I only played my three chosen grade six pieces and was then asked questions on each one.

After that I did the quick study which was in 3/4 and moderate tempo in B flat. It was tricky as I expected. It had the una corda pedal  and varied dynamics and articulation.

How did your recital go Blackett and Howden? I admire people that take the performance diploma. It must of taken many months of preparation. What a challenge! Best wishes to you.

Did anyone else take a diploma exam last December?

Welcome to the forum, Romance. I didn't think my recital went too badly, particularly considering I'd had so much going on in the week leading up to the exam. I know I could have passed, but worried I didn't perform to my best. Just the long wait until I hear the result now.

Thank you Blackett and Howden. It sounds like you done well. I think we all feel like we could of done better so I wouldn´t worry. At least you can say you´ve taken it.

I had a very stressful time before my exam as well because I currently live in Spain but I took the teaching diploma in London and there was a train strike to make things worse!

I got there okay though and was quite pleased with the exam overall but I am a worrier, but at least I have my partner who is also a pianist. I know the feeling of the long wait for the results! Good luck to you.

Yes, I was told they will be sent out next week, commencing Monday 6th February and that I will receive an e-mail that they have been sent.
