Not a republican but I wish she wasn't American, and so many accepted conventions swept aside so it could happen.

I'm suffering from a crisis of conscience. Child is loving all this, and wants to celebrate; he's bought the flags to do the job, and even invested in a picnic blanket for a school picnic in honour of the occasion. I remember enjoying the queen's jubilee and Charles' wedding, so I don't want to be a spoilsport. But I'm increasingly republican as I get older. I can't get enthusiastic about the wedding of two strangers. I can't get enthusiastic about an expensive institution that has degenerated into a gossip-column crossed with a historical pageant. I can't, morally, get enthusiastic about people's importance being measured by their parentage. But the child should be spared my jaundiced viewpoint, so I suppose I'll be waving my flag and trying to look happy.

"Child is loving all this"- sounds as if he/she has been brainwashed by politically correct teachers! As with religion, royalty survives by patronage of adults (we'll make you a Sir or Lady)-and indoctrination of the young! argh.gif

I wonder how many bus-loads of children will be bussed into Windsor on the Great Day.

Come to the Clitheroe Piano Meetup. Clitheroe library 1pm to about 3:30pm.

Absolutely! I'll be there. No TV that day for me either. I have a backlog of interesting art/history/culture programmes recorded to keep me entertained.

I don't generally have TV on in the daytime anyway.

We can all just go and do some practice instead. That's what I usually plan for that part of the day anyway.

I managed to avoid the last wedding (the 'big' one), plus I have similarly escaped the last three c*****mases and e***ers, so this one should be a doddle.

The last one, when we all got a public holiday, I figured the roads would be quiet, so I cycled to Cambridge (about 30 miles).  Had some lunch then got the train home.  It was all over by then smile.png

When Charles and Di got married my husband and I did a lovely ride from Glasgow to Rowardennan (Loch Lomond) and back. 62 miles in all and we only saw two cars! We hope to do something similar this time but I have an orchestra concert the next day and will probably need to allow time to do some practice.

Will definitely not be switching TV on. Way too many gushy flunkies! ill.gif

Will be playing my B flat major cello arpeggio instead! smile.png
