News about our diplomas
We’re excited to share an update about our new diplomas, which will give performers, teachers and directors opportunities to study for and achieve high-quality, advance-level music qualifications.
We’re introducing the new diplomas gradually. An introduction to our new LRSM and FRSM Music Performance diplomas is available now. We will then be providing updates about our Teaching and Directing diplomas from September this year.
The new diplomas will be relevant to today’s musicians, focus on specialist skills needed in the performing arts sector and provide clear pathways for progression.
All our new diplomas will be digital assessments, available on demand through our online service, giving candidates worldwide complete choice over when to book and take their diploma. We are also exploring opportunities for offering face-to-face assessment for diplomas in the future.
New diplomas in Music Performance
We’re publishing the qualification specification for our new LRSM and FRSM in Music Performance in November 2023. Booking and assessment will then be available from April 2024.
For anyone who would like to start preparing now, our introduction to the new Performance diplomas provides information about requirements, prerequisites, assessment and repertoire. We will be adding to the repertoire lists in the coming months and publishing updated lists in November.
Our new suite of Music Performance diplomas, and their Regulatory Qualification Framework levels, will be:
- ARSM (Level 4) – no change from current
- LRSM (Level 6) – new
- FRSM (Level 7) – new
Designed to provide next steps after our existing ARSM diploma in Performance, the new LRSM and FRSM will be assessed through a recital performance and supporting evidence. There will be opportunities for own-choice repertoire in the recital and an element of choice for the supporting evidence.
Candidates video-record their recital and submit this online with their supporting evidence. The performance and submission are then assessed by our examiners.
There are no changes to our existing ARSM Performance diploma which continues to provide an ideal first diploma after Grade 8.
