New Teaching diplomas - full details available now
The qualification specification for our new Music Teaching diplomas is now available!
Shape your future with an ABRSM diploma, designed to recognise and reward the skills of music educators worldwide – now with more choice in how you shape your qualification to reflect your own work as a teacher.
Our new suite of diplomas and their Regulatory Qualification Framework levels are:
- ARSM – Level 4, equivalent to the end of the first year of an undergraduate course
- LRSM – Level 6, equivalent to the end of the final year of an undergraduate course
- FRSM – Level 7, equivalent to the end of a postgraduate course
At all levels these diplomas will assess your skills as a teacher and your understanding of the underlying principles and values of teaching music.
What’s new?
- Our redeveloped Teaching qualifications are open to teachers working with any instrument, voice or style of music in any setting – from one-to-one lessons to ensemble activities.
- They offer a clear progression route from ARSM to LRSM in Music Teaching and FRSM in Music Education.
- You have the opportunity to enter even if you haven’t taken graded music exams.
- For the ARSM and LRSM, Candidate Resources are provided to support your preparation.
- You have the option to submit your work in any language with English translations.
- Assessment is by a specialist Teaching diploma examiner
How does it work?
Online booking and digital assessment will be available worldwide from October 2024. You can choose when to book and submit your diploma evidence.
For ARSM and LRSM, candidates submit a video of their teaching with a supporting commentary and a piece of written or spoken work. The FRSM focuses on original research or the development of an original teaching resource. At all levels candidates also take part in an online Professional Discussion with the examiner.
